My daughter, almost 5 years old in this picture.

This is one of the first pictures I took on the Canon 7D, in November 2009.

We were at the Golden Bay Hotel in Weihai, China—known as “Papa’s House” among family because my daughter remembers her grandfather staying there a few years earlier.

The day I took this shot we were at the hotel having breakfast, and my daughter, who refuses to sit and eat for any longer than 5 minutes, decided to go out and play with red twigs beside the water and ponder the unponderable.

Okay, knowing her, she was probably thinking of how many Barbie dolls she could get Papa to buy if she pleaded her case desperately enough.
